It's time for Super Bowl 50. Just say it out loud to yourself. For fifty years we've gathered around the T.V. with friends and family to see who walks away with the Lombardi Trophy, but more importantly we get together to stuff our pieholes with snacks and watch the commercials.

To honor fifty years of Super Bowl ads, CBS.com counted down the fifty "best" ads all time.

Guess which company came out on top? Budweiser. The King of Beers and masters of heart warming animal ads proudly represented by Clydesdale horses trotting down a sunlit lane in slow motion.

According the #superbowlcommercials voters, Budweiser claimed nearly half the fifty greatest Super Bowl ads of all time. They made us laugh, they make us cry, and we root for that all-american brand (owned by a foreign parent company).

But we forget, at the end of the day Budweiser is promoting booze. Indirectly, these ads are promoting alcoholism despite the cover-your-ass "drink responsibly" subtext added to the bottom of each ad.

When asked which is worse—booze or pot—Dr. Aaron Carroll, professor of pediatrics at Indiana University considers alcohol much more dangerous.

Carroll wrote an eye opening piece for the New York Times last year putting marijuana up against alcohol to see which was "worse". He relayed his findings to CBS News, "After going through all the data and looking at which is more dangerous in almost any metric you would pick, pot really looks like it's safer than alcohol. So I guess if I had to choose, that (pot) would the the answer."

Carroll pointed out many people associate marijuana with crime, but most of that criminal behavior is related to do with illegal distribution, not violence committed by the people who use it.

Conversely, reported violent assaults are often fueled by booze. Carroll points out domestic violence is "lower in couples who smoke marijuana".

Each year over 1,800 college students die from alcohol-related mishaps and almost 600,000 are injured while under the influence of alcohol, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Drinking alcohol is more socially acceptable, regardless of the mounting evidence showing how it ruins lives. And at last count, nobody has died from marijuana.

It makes one wonder why pot is still listed (incorrectly) as a schedule 1 drug, putting it in the same category as heroin while alcohol companies have carte blanche to own the airwaves on the biggest stage with the biggest audience in America.

There are risks and benefits to both, and in moderation both can provide enjoyment. This Super Bowl Sunday when you see an add for Budweiser just think about what that ad would look like if it were just for buds. That'll make you wiser.
