Whether you agree with the mans politics or not, you've got to admit Bill Maher is fairly, well, unconventional.
Never one to shy from the topic of marijuana, Maher, during his Feb. 12, 2016 taping of the "Real Time with Bill Maher" used the platform to speak directly to proponents of marijuana legalization, candidly reminding the public that legalization is not guaranteed, even if individuals can use it recreationally in four states (with others such as California poised to debate the issue later this year).
"People who love marijuana have to … have to do me this favor, stop treating it like you could never lose it," Maher said. "You hippies need to get your head out of your grass. Progress doesn't just automatically snowball."
Maher further addressed the issues of non-committal politicians and relayed the story of Raymond Schwab, a PTSD afflicted Vet who lost custody of his 5 children after moving to Colorado to legally use cannabis. He also discussed the issue of banking, noting:
"And dispensaries still can't get banking services 'cause they're too skeevy, the banks not the dispensaries."
Maher closed his editorial about the state of America's increasingly complex relationship with marijuana with a lit joint and a clear warning, "Please remember that legalizing pot is a long way from a done deal."
